Meet Lennard – Positive Psychologist

B Mil (Soc Sci), BA Hons (I/O Psych), MA (I/O Psych), MBA (UQ), MAPS

I am a Psychologist with more than 20 years of experience in a variety of consulting, learning & development, counseling and corporate leadership roles, overseas and in Australia.  During this time I have worked with a wide range of clients in private practice, business, professional services, the military and non-governmental agencies. I am also an experienced coach, trainer, facilitator and public speaker on a wide variety of personal and leadership development topics.

After successfully managing my own consulting firm and private practice in my mid thirties I decided to put my skills to practice and have subsequently spent more than a decade in various corporate executive roles in Brisbane.  I believe I speak from experience; not only have I had the opportunity to consult to and counsel others in Psychological principles and strategies, but I have had the responsibility of implementing many of these for myself and the people I have been responsible for in the business world.  I hold a Bachelors degree in Social Sciences, a Honours and Master’s Degree in Organisational Psychology and have fairly recently obtained an MBA from the University of Queensland.

I am passionate about helping people to overcome some of life’s inevitable struggles and to further help them navigate through these times to become the best they can be and to lead full and meaningful lives. I work from a whole person perspective in which I actively help clients to improve their long-term health and wellbeing. My overall approach is strengths-focussed, solutions-orientated and inherently optimistic. I am a firm believer in the science and practice of Positive Psychology and I combine these strategies with modern mindfulness based techniques. I am also a qualified ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) therapist.

In my own life’s journey so far, I have experienced many of the life issues my clients struggle with for myself, therefor I approach the counseling experience from a perspective of genuine care, empathy and understanding and I always strive to provide a safe, confidential and accepting environment for my clients.

On a personal note I am a lucky enough to work in a practice as part of a husband and wife team, and together Alida and I have a son together. I am also a spiritual person and a devoted Christian. In my spare time I am a bit of an adventurer, I love the outdoors and I keep fit and healthy but in a balanced way!

Meet Alida – Positive Counsellor

LL.B, Dip.Prof.Couns

My path to a career in counselling has been via a long legal career. It is my passion to help people move through the valleys of life with greater ease, that has always driven my actions. A common thread throughout my life has been a commitment to help people when faced with challenging and/or life-changing events. It is my belief that everyone has the potential to grow where they have been planted. It is my job as counsellor to help clients to view experiences, feelings and circumstances as potential fertile soil for a rich and meaningful life to be had. Realising that as humans, in varying degrees, we all find having to change difficult, I work from a perspective of respect, warmth and understanding.

I see clients for a range of personal and interpersonal issues, including:

  • Dealing with the effects of divorce
  • Stress, anxiety and depression
  • relationship issues
  • Grief and loss
  • Weight issues
  • Pregnancy related issues, ie. pre-/ post abortion issues & loss of a baby

As a certified Therapist in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy my approach is founded in the underlying principles that whatever the circumstance, we can still live our values and enjoy a meaningful life by engaging fully with every moment, taking it all in. I draw from positive psychology and solution-focused principles in order to help clients achieve a greater quality of life – a greater sense of vitality, wellbeing and fulfillment.
